Start your teaching career with Shires Teaching Alliance.

As a Regional Hub accredited by the University of Worcester, we work with a network of local primary and secondary schools to deliver high-quality initial teacher training through a one-year Postgraduate programme leading to Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) and a Postgraduate Certificate in Education (PGCE).

Training with Shires Teaching Alliance offers the best of both worlds: academic study alongside extensive classroom experience. From the very start, you’ll be immersed in school life, developing your skills, confidence and expertise with the support of experienced mentors and educators.

Throughout the programme, you’ll gain experience in at least two schools, enabling you to work with a range of pupils, settings and teaching approaches. As your confidence grows, so will your teaching responsibilities, helping you develop the knowledge, skills and professionalism needed for a successful career in education.

Our curriculum has been co-designed with the University of Worcester and school partners, combining university-based learning with practical training delivered in schools and regional training centres.

What You’ll Gain

  • Exceptional support from experienced school and university mentors
  • Extensive classroom experience, with over 120 days of school-based training
  • Placements in at least two schools, providing a broad range of teaching experiences
  • Training to teach pupils aged 11-16, with Post-16 enhancement opportunities (Business, Economics and Psychology train across the 14-19 age range)
  • Eligibility for a range of tax-free bursaries and scholarships, depending on your subject
  • Opportunities to develop specialist knowledge in areas such as SEND, mental health, sustainability, educational technology and leadership
  • Access to additional conferences, visits, projects and enrichment opportunities to enhance your employability
  • A PGCE worth 60 Master’s level credits, supporting future study and career progression

Join a Supportive Teaching Community

At Shires Teaching Alliance, you’ll be valued as a professional from day one. We are committed to providing a supportive, collaborative and inspiring training experience that prepares you to make a real difference in the lives of young people.

Whether you’re taking your first step into teaching or making a career change, we’d love to help you begin your journey.
